Notice Detail:
KSU Applied English Department Students Going to Singapore for Internships
Published Date:2013-08-15Responding to the educational aim of ‘Enhancing internationalization on campuses, cultivating excellent foreign language talents’ by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, KSU Applied English Department sent five students, Yu-chiao Hsu, Shu-yin Wu, Ting-hui Wang, Ya-ju Huang and Chiu-yueh Cheng, to Singapore, interviewing with the chain and franchise business of an international hotel and the clothing retail industry through TCC Manpower Pte Ltd., an executive search firm which specializes in matching personnel to key positions in the Hospitality Industry throughout the Asia Pacific.

The five students are appointed as waitresses and salespeople respectively at different workplaces, including the Mint & Royal Room at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Sun King Ryoriya Pte Ltd, NafNaf, and French Connection. The students who work at the restaurant stated that they have to remember all the English names for dishes on the menu, and have to be acquainted with the ingredients as well as the food preparation for each dish to provide customers with correct information when they are requesting. As for wines, the students are also required to remember and express the features, the vintage years, and the taste of wines with fluent English to customers. Consequently, although the job is stressful and challenging, all the students have learned plentiful and professional knowledge in the catering related field. Likewise, the student Ting-hui Wang who works at a clothing store stated that she enjoys working when recommending the types of clothes that are best suited for customers’ needs. In addition, according to the Human Resource Director of TCC Manpower Pte Ltd., he declared that all the KSU students have adapted well to their work so far, and also looks forward to further cooperation with KSU to provide more students who possess good English communication skills with internship opportunity in Singapore.

According to KSU, Singapore has a convenient public transportation network, a good public security environment and a clean and beautiful surrounding, where regarded as a global village that contains the ethnicity groups of Asians, Malays, Indians and so on. Additionally, Singapore is also a nation with high quality of living, well-developed cultures of entertainment, tourism and delicacies, which makes the five KSU students greatly enjoy their life of internship in Singapore.
