Elective Courses

  • Business English Writing

  • By the use of 「Basic English」 teaching as a basis, the instructor induces students to the field of studies in businesses. Lessons include quotations, inquiry, orders, insurances, L/C, payments, receptions and other business writing. Some grammatical usages are introduced e.g. Sentence Analysis, Capitalization Plurals Forms of Nouns, The Use of Passive Nouns, Agreement of Antecedents and Pronouns, Verbs as well as Preposition, etc.

  • Business Software Package

  • The course aims to understand business software applications, including Microsoft Word 2002, Excel 2002, Access 2002 etc. Word 2002 investigates the business document format, table and equation generation. Excel 2002 consists of three aspects; they are spreadsheet editing, formula, and charting. Apart from that, database system and Web Pages under the Excel environment to develop the comprehensive business applications are also discussed.

  • Case Study of Financial Management

  • Cases in Managerial Finance can exhort the misconception whether the financial management is too mechanical or too theoretical. The course covers a great deal of financial management materials by relating the various topics to practice in the real world and the problems the financial manager will meet. Through these cases studies, more knowledge will be obtained to solve interactive complicated financial situations.

  • Derivatives

  • The course induces Option, Interest Rate Swap, and other derivatives. The course coverage includes introduction of derivatives, mechanics of derivatives markets, and trading strategies involving options and pricing of options. The course also induces options market in Taiwan.

  • Economic Analysis

  • This course extends economics by elaborating upon the principles underlying the formulation, estimation, evaluation, and application of empirical econometric models. The aim of the course is to develop an enhanced understanding of the ways in which economic and financial theory, statistical theory and procedures, and time series data interact in the empirical econometric modeling process so that the student can carry out useful empirical research as well as read and critically evaluate published research.

  • Economic Mathematics

  • This course provides essential mathematic tools, including linear algebra and differential skill. Students in this course will obtain a firm foundation in applied and computational mathematics as well as a basic grounding in economic theory. It is also ideal as a second major for students in economics who need more mathematical training, especially those preparing for graduate school since the academic field of economics relies heavily on mathematical models.

  • Financial Markets and Institutions

  • This course introduces the four major elements of the financial markets, including interest rates, ultimate supply of fund, ultimate demand of fund and different kinds of financial products in the markets. Several topics are discussed, including interest rate risk, term structure of interest rates, management of financial institutions, structure and competition of banking industry as well as foreign exchange markets.

  • Financial Statement Analysis

  • The course exerts the analytical techniques of financial ratio analysis, comparative analysis, cash flow analysis, the sensitivity analysis, the break-even-point analysis to audit the corporate finance statement. Through these analyses, students can understand the situation of corporate finance and they are also helpful to the study of investment policy, financing policy, and corporate internal profit planning.

  • Fixed Income Securities Analysis

  • The course coverage includes class of fixed income securities, pricing of interest rate contingent claims, measures of return and risk, term structure of interest rate, and portfolio of fixed income securities. The course educates students to uphold the understanding of the modern approach to fixed income analytics.

  • Futures and Options

  • This course is designed to investigate the trading behavior and mechanics of futures and options markets. The topics of futures market include specification of the futures contract, operation of margins, hedge trading and spread trading etc. There are two types of options: calls and puts. The properties of options, trading strategies, including spread and combination in option trading, are also explored.

  • Intermediate Accounting (I), (II)

  • This course is an extension of fundamental accounting. It focuses on the accounting treatment of the following complex transactions, including the calculation of EPS under simple and complex capital structure, revenue recognition, long-term investments in stocks and funds, accounting for leases, and as accounting for pension plans.

  • International Finance and Foreign Exchange

  • The main idea addresses the full range of international money and finance. Balance of payments (BOP) determination, basic theories of unbalance, the history of exchange rate systems and exchange rate determination are introduced. Additionally, there are many texts with a focus on basic conception of BOP, purchasing power parity, portfolio approaches to BOP, and exchange rate determination.

  • International Financial Management

  • This course helps to explain the international environment in which multinational corporations (MNCs) is operating. It presumes an understanding of basic corporate finance. In order to improve effectiveness of corporate operating, the manager reinforces some aspects of corporate perspective from financing, using and evaluating of the projects. Additionally, the course provides the macroeconomic framework and management of financial risk, including the key concepts of multinational finance, management of exchange rate risk, motives for direct foreign investment, and multinational capital budgeting.

  • Introduction to Business

  • Course is designed to let students understand the essence of business through business dynamics and economic concepts. Business and law environments, business ethics, entrepreneurship, marketing information development, and business trends are introduced. Related topics are personnel, finance, production, marketing, R&D, information in business functions, and planning, organizing, staffing, and controlling in managerial functions. The interrelation of management mix (all above-mentioned functions) is studied to the core.
    This course is designed to investigate the trading behavior and mechanics of futures and options markets.   • Investment Banking

  • Course is designed to let students understand underwriting and risk management. It focuses on underwriting, private placement, venture capital, merger and acquisition, leveraged buyout, privatization, project finance, investment management, and asset management.

  • Mathematical Statistics

  • The contents include the key statistical concepts and data description, probability, discrete and continuous probability distributions, theory of sampling distribution, and estimation and hypothesis testing. It focuses on the use of mathematical principles to clarify the theorem of statistical methods and to prove how the statistical formulae are induced.

  • Personal Finance

  • Course is aimed at the demand of personal finance. This course introduces both the topics of personal financial planning and individual investment on financial resources.

  • Practices of Banking

  • There are two goals in this course. The first is to let students have a complete idea of commercial bank』s service and financial tools. The second is to let students obtain more competitive advantages in the banking industry when they graduate from school in the future.

  • Practices of Insurance

  • The course coverage includes life and health insurance, property and liability insurance, employee benefits, social insurance. The course also introduces risk management of personal and family affairs.

  • Security Analysis and Practice (I), (II)

  • This course is to let students understand actual operational procedures of security market, comprehend the rational investment decision at uncertain state.

  • Security Transaction Law

  • This course is the fundamental of the exam of financial licenses. It is designed to let students understand security transaction law, security practice, and security marketing.

  • Statistics Analysis

  • It is a continuation of the Mathematical Statistics. The contents include (1) Linear Models: analysis of variance, simple linear regression and correlation, (2) Distribution of multi-variables: multiple regression and correlation analysis.

  • Tax Law

  • To provide the students with a simple and effective concept about tax, this course discusses taxes concerning the basic concepts of tax, consolidated income tax, profit-seeking enterprise income tax, business income tax, and tax imposition.
