Mission Statement and Objectives

The mission of the KSU Computer and Communication department is to:

    • provide high quality education environment.
    • Equip our students with the knowledge and expertise to contribute significantly to the computer and communication industry.
    • Partner with local, national, and international entities in education and research.
    • promote partnerships with industry and community.
    • Engage both faculty and students in scholarly research activities to promote the abilities of practice research, innovation and integration.
    • Nurture our students’ interpersonal and entrepreneural skills to become successful entrepreneurs or managers.
    • foster all-directional computer and communication talents with a broad liberal arts education, interpersonal skills, and ability of integration.

Area of Concentration

To respond the rapid development and challenges from computer and communication related industries, the KSU's Department of Computer and Communication was established to equip students with the knowledge and expertise to contribute significantly to the fields such as wireless and mobile communication, computer networks, computer application, and the integration of 4C technology. To meet the requirements, we focus our efforts on core topics including wireless communication, mobile communication, multi-media, digital signal processing, modulation technology, channel encode, information security, RF circuit technology, object-oriented window programming, network programming ,and computer network management and maintenance. With a broad liberal arts education, interpersonal skills, and ability of integration, we could foster all-directional computer and communication talents after their graduation.

Research Fields and Curriculum

KSU Computer and Communication pursues teaching and research in two major programs:

  1. Multi-Media Program: it focuses on wireless communication, optical communication, multi-media and technology of digital signal processor and RF integrated circuit design. We hope to cultivate engineers who have both academic theories and experiences of practice to meet the qualifications required by industries.
  2. Computer Networks Program: this program emphasizes on the technologies of cryptology, wireless network, high-speed network, network management and maintenance, security of wireless network and how to efficiently distribute network resources and troubleshooting. With the certification-related courses in our curriculum like SUN SCJP, LINUX RHCE, CWNA, CCNA, and CIW certification, we can foster abilities of academic theories and practical experiences through certification-related courses.

Furthermore, collaboration is a major part of what we do in the research fields. Our students partner with other departments as well as international and regional organizations and industries to cultivate and promote the abilities of practice research, innovation and integration.
