Course Introduction

  • Basic English Listening & Speaking

    The course intends to enhance students basic aural and oral ability with providing students variously authentic but easy materials, such as broad casting English, TV English, movie English, etc…

  • Advanced English Listening & Speaking

This course aims to further strengthen students’ listening comprehension. Various material would be used to facilitate the students’ understanding of linguistic interaction in situations.

  • Advanced English Conversation

A full-English learning environment would be conducted by teachers from English-speaking countries. Various activities, like group discussion, audio/video material watching, and dialogue practice, are integrated in class to improve the students’ oral skill.

  • Basic English Conversation

The course intends to enhance students’ basic English conversation ability, motivation and interest by means of role-playing, group-discussion, audio-visual materials and film appreciation、Besides, the teacher of this course also tries to provide an authentic language learning environment to students with variously situational topics, in which the teacher expects to improve students’ aural and oral ability.

  • Basic English Reading

The course intends to enhance students’ reading ability by providing students plenty of short and updated articles with practicing various reading skills, such as scanning, skimming, clustering, etc..

  • Advanced English Reading

The main objective of this course is to equip the students for effective and independent reading activities. Teaching and learning would be centered on use of reading strategies.

  • English grammar

It views basic English grammar and from depth on gradually further analyses the fine grammar structure. A short article applying the content of the unit leads the reading at the beginning of the unit, and the content of grammar of the unit is introduced followed by drilling the class with exercise to familiarize students with the concepts that has been learned.

  • English writing

The sentence patterns are introduced to establish the foundation of writing. According to the topic, several questions for thought are listed, and with words of transition the answers to the questions are connected to form an article. Words and sentences used by the students are discussed and collected in correct words and syntax. Students are led in English thinking in the process of writing in a habitual way employed by English native speakers.

  • Advanced English Writing

By using English writing examples, and by drawing some questions for the students to think to elicit the paragraph in writing. Then according to the examples, the instructor gives the students topics to write. The purpose is to train the students’ independent thinking. The students’ writing will be corrected in order to train the students to write more American-like writing.

  • Commercial Correspondence Practice for International Trade

This course is to teach business inquiry, reply, quotation, order, memorandum, report, quotation, e-mail, facsimile…etc. The instructor uses practical writing to train the students’ business writing ability.

  • Business English

The course is designed to help students familiar with English application in business world through conducting various types of projects and case studies. With the establishment of simulated companies, students are able to practice using English appropriately in different business situations. Group learning arrangement is set up to increase interaction among students in class and to provide more opportunities for practicing English in various business settings.

  • Introduction to Western Literature

Through reading and appreciating mythology, the bible, well-known classical literary writings, and so on, the course is designed to give students a broad view of western cultures, and lead them to the origins of western literature.

  • Introduction to Linguistics

Taking this introductory linguistic course, the students would get an overview of the subjects reflecting contemporary linguistic theories and practice.
