Brief history

The Micro-Precision Manufacturing Center (MPMIC) started in 1996. In 1996, with the funding from the Technological Automation Program of The Education Ministry, a series of advanced machineries were purchased, including a high-speed precision milling machine and 3-D Laser Scan System. Under the careful planning and management of M.E. department chairman Dr. Huann-Ming Chou, and Dr. Chong Ching Chang, the center has been developed very aggressively. Not only it integrated with a lot of very advanced machineries and instruments, it also cooperated with industrial partners on deferent important projects. In January 1997, thanks to the vision of then school president Zhenghe Lee, and the 20 million NTD software donated by the British Company DelCam, the Micro-Precision Manufacturing center was formally established. The Delcam CAD/CAM Training Center is attached to the MPMIC. With the 1997 funding from the Education Ministry, a 3-D Rapid Prototyping Center was purchased and put into service through the Internet. With the 3 year Education Ministrys Micro-Mechanical Funding from 1998-2000, an Extrosion machine and CAE molding analysis software were purchased. With the development of the center, the Moldex Training Center and Solid Edge Training Center were established.

In the 1999 plan of Improvement of Versatility and Precise of Technical School Education by M.E. Department Chairman Dr. Huanming Chou, the Micro & Precision Manufacturing Center (MEMS) was initiated. The MEMS Center raises the traditional machine/mold design/manufacturing onto the level of micrometer precision. Under the encouragement of former School President Chuoming Chen and Dean of School of Engineering Chushang Wei, and the direction of School President Mingxing Yang, the center was announced as the first school level research and development center on 02/01/2004. The major objectives of the center are to plan and promote basic research, and also to closely corporate with companies to integrate the research results into industrial applications or commercial products.
