Areas of Concentration
The Department of Environmental Engineering at the Kun Shan University was established in 1988. Since then, the Department continues improving it’s teaching and research facilities and space and, thereby, making progress in academic performance. The educational objectives of the Department are to broaden the application of environmental technology to solve regional problems of environmental pollution. The Department also strives to collaborate with various public and private companies. The educational training programs include wastewater treatment, air pollution and prevention, solid waste management, industrial manufacturing processes, noise and vibration control, industrial safety and industrial toxic chemical management. To accommodate new challenges in a constantly changing environment, our faculty members have devoted themselves to developing four major academic fields: application of nano-science and environmental material, development of sustainable resource and safety technology, development of pollution control technology and application of biotechnology, and the planning of environmental strategy. To pursue the national sustainable development, the goal of the department policy is to train the students with discipline in the field of environmental engineering.
Research fields
The research interests of our faculty members are diversified, including environmental pollution prevention and design, environmental planning and management, measurements of working environment, control of industrial pollutant sources, resource recycling, industrial waste reduction, automatic monitoring and operation, and development of environmental technology.

Although industrialization has significantly upgraded the living standard of our society, it causes serious environmental problems that we have to face with. In the near future, the activities of industry are not possible to slow down, thus the consequence of contamination in our environment should be unavoidable. Therefore, environmental protection will be an endless job, and environmental engineers must exist. To cope with the trend of internationalization, there is a urgent need to train enough environmental engineers to meet the requirement of our society and to improve their ability to solve the environmental problems. In so doing, the goal of the national sustainable development can be achieved. Nowadays, the faculty members devote themselves to establishing the Sustainable Environmental-Technology Center and the Semiconductor Contaminant Prevention Center at this Department. Moreover, the faculty members will teach the students to be specialists in various areas of environmental engineering, and educate them with the concept and technology of industrial processes and environmental pollution control. All the abilities of problem solving are based on the foundation of solid professional knowledge.
