A Brief History

1965 Kun Shan University, then known as Kun Shan Institute, was officially founded on April 29, 1965. It is located in Da Wan area, Yung Kang City. Originally, it was planned as a junior college of industry and business; however, the Ministry of Education finally approved it as a junior college of industry.
1971-1986

In August 1971, The Evening school of the two-year junior college program was established; and in July 1991 the business departments were finally set up and the school was renamed Kun Shan Institute of Technology.

Kun Shan University has established partnerships with many schools. Chung-Buk National University in The Republic of Korea in 1975, and The Wilhemshaven Institute of Technology in Germany in 1986, contracted alliances as Sister Schools with Kun Shan University.

1996

In 1996, we contracted partnerships with both Wellington polytechnic and Auckland International College in New Zealand.

In August 1996 under the order of the Ministry of Education, it was promoted to a technological college with an affiliated junior college on campus. The Evening School was changed to The Department of Continuing Education.

1998

In 1998, Massey University also in New Zealand, joined in a Sister School Agreement.

2000

In the year 2000, Kun Shan University expanded its international scope of cooperation by joining four more universities from around the world in Sister School alliances. Manchester Metropolitan University in England, Linz University in Austria, and Duke University in the United States.

In the year 2000, this school was again promoted and officially changed to Kun Shan University. Within the university, four colleges were established: the college of Engineering Technology, the College of Management Technology, the college of Business Technology, and the College of Design Technology. Kun Shan University now consists of a technological college with four-year programs (seventeen departments and one division), a technological college with two-year programs (thirteen departments and one division), a Department of Continuing Education with four-year programs (six departments and one division) as well as two-year programs (eleven departments and one division), and a supplementary school with two-year programs at both the senior college level (four departments and one division), and junior college level (eleven department).

2000-Present

Kun Shan University, a fine school of higher learning, was established over thirty-fives years ago and is located in southern Taiwan on a beautiful and spacious campus which is the home of outstanding students and faculty.

It is hoped that during the twenty-first century Kun Shan University will experience continued steady growth and expansion, making it a truly first-rate international university.
